Spotify Launches Audiobooks in Nigeria With ₦2,300 Monthly Plan
Spotify has officially expanded its audiobook service to Nigeria, giving local listeners access to audiobooks through a new monthly Audiobooks+ option priced at ₦2,300.
The service began rolling out to Nigerian users on October 14, 2026, as part of Spotify’s wider expansion of audiobooks from 22 markets to more than 180 by the end of the year. The global rollout is expected to make audiobook access available to more than 750 million people.
For users in Nigeria, both Spotify Free and Premium subscribers can add Audiobooks+ for ₦2,300 per month. The plan provides 15 hours of audiobook listening during each billing cycle, with only the time actually spent listening deducted from the monthly allowance.
Unused hours do not carry over to the next billing cycle. Listeners who use up their allocation can purchase an additional 10 hours for ₦2,700, while individual audiobook titles can also be purchased to keep.
Spotify Expands Beyond Music and Podcasts
The Nigerian launch represents another step in Spotify’s expansion beyond its original music-streaming focus. The company has been building its audiobook business since introducing the format in 2022 and had expanded its catalogue to more than 700,000 titles across its earlier markets.
Spotify says its broader 2026 expansion will bring audiobooks to more than 180 markets, with a catalogue spanning hundreds of thousands of titles and more than 120 languages.
For Nigerian listeners, the service introduces another way to consume books through a platform already widely used for music and podcasts. The company is positioning audiobooks as suitable for everyday activities such as commuting, walking and relaxing at home.
The rollout also creates another digital distribution channel through which authors and publishers can reach Nigerian listeners, while giving local audiences access to Spotify’s expanding international audiobook catalogue.
