‘Where the Money Dey’ — Portable Questions VeryDarkMan Over Burna Boy’s ₦200m Donation

Nigerian singer Portable has questioned social media activist VeryDarkMan over the reported donation by Afrobeats star Burna Boy for a school project, demanding to know how the funds were spent.

Portable raised the questions in a video circulating online, where he criticised VeryDarkMan over the murals painted on the walls of the school project and questioned the decision to feature former Togolese footballer Emmanuel Adebayor in the artwork.

He also questioned why VeryDarkMan included his own portrait, arguing that the project was reportedly funded by Burna Boy.

“Burna Boy give you money, wetin you use am do? NGO money, where the money dey?”

Portable Demands Explanation Over School Funds

Portable further alleged that Burna Boy gave VeryDarkMan more than ₦200 million to build the school and questioned whether the money had been used for its intended purpose.

The comments come after VeryDarkMan showcased a school and clinic project in Odiokwu, Rivers State, reportedly funded by Burna Boy. Reports on the project have put its overall value at about ₦250 million, while VeryDarkMan previously disclosed that ₦50 million was spent on the murals and graffiti.

Portable also criticised the artwork, particularly the inclusion of Adebayor and VeryDarkMan’s own image, questioning why Burna Boy’s contribution should not receive greater prominence.

Allegations Have Not Established Misuse of Funds

Portable’s comments are allegations and questions about the reported donation; they do not by themselves establish that the funds were misappropriated. Reports reviewed for this story did not provide independent evidence proving that the money was diverted or improperly spent.

VeryDarkMan has previously presented the school and clinic as a community development project funded by Burna Boy, while the latest reports reviewed did not include a direct response from him to Portable’s specific criticisms.
